Hello Salmon Creek Families,

Many parents have asked me about the attendance board out front each day where we are tracking ab-sences and tardies. Attendance is one of the biggest indicators of student success early on for children. It is important that students are at school and learning. We understand that kids get sick, however students are often pulled out of school for reasons other than illness or doctor’s appointments. Statistically students that attend school 90% or more of the time and that are rarely tardy have the greatest chance of graduat-ing high school on time and being career, college and life ready. Through the end of October students who are on track with a 90% or better attendance have missed 4 or fewer days of school at this point in the year.

Our school wide goal for attendance is 10 or fewer absences each day and 5 or fewer tardies each day. If you see me out front cheering kids on as they come in at 8:28 in the morning you know that I am working to support each and every child start their day on track. If you normally drop your child off after 8:20 you may want to give yourself some wiggle room by changing your morning schedule to drop your child off before 8:20. These few minutes may seem insignificant, but to your child being in class and ready to go with their classmates before 8:30 builds confi-dence and efficacy in learning.

For every child, every day, Heath
